The latest installment of Karan Johar’s renowned franchise, Student of the Year 3, will feature Shanaya Kapoor, the daughter of Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor. Filming is scheduled to start in Mumbai on April 20, 2025. This sequel, which is creating excitement due to Shanaya’s rumoured double part, will be a six-episode web series directed by debutante Reema Maya, unlike its theatrical predecessors.
With SOTY 3, which will be available on JioHotstar, the Student of the Year franchise—which gave rise to celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, Ananya Panday, and Tara Sutaria—is making the switch to over-the-top television. The series will reportedly be filmed in a brief 30-day period, which reflects director Reema Maya’s fast-paced style. Maya is known for her critically praised short film Nocturnal Burger (2023).
According to a source cited in a recent Mid-Day report, “SOTY 3 has been taking shape for the past six years.” Karan has now given the all-clear, and the unit intends to start filming it on April 20. Six episodes will be shot in just over 30 days, which is a tight timeline. According to a different insider cited in the publication, “SOTY 3 will now be her fourth project and her streaming debut.” It’s interesting to note that Shanaya will play two parts, which is unprecedented in the SOTY series.
Shanaya’s 2025–2026 schedule is busy after SOTY 3. Santosh Singh’s romantic drama debut, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, is finished and slated for release in theatres. In addition, she is appearing in an untitled movie with Abhay Verma and the survival thriller Tu Yaa Main, which is starring Adarsh Gourav and is scheduled for Valentine’s Day 2026.
