Regena Cassandra in 2025: Breaking Stereotypes in Indian Cinema
Regena Cassandra has had a remarkable year in 2025, making notable appearances in “Jaat” and “Kesari Chapter 2” after her impactful role in the Ajith-starrer “Vidaamuyarchi.” The talented actress continues to challenge industry norms and speak candidly about her journey, language barriers, and regional stereotypes in Bollywood.

Challenging Stereotypes in Bollywood
In an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times and Bollywood Hungama, Regena boldly addressed the issue of typecasting in the film industry.
“I can’t play a Punjabi girl, and that’s ok,” she said, pointing out the industry’s double standards. “But a girl from Punjab can easily play a South Indian role. I’ve experienced that myself.”
She further expressed her concerns about representation and fairness in casting decisions.
“No, because I think it’s very convenient for them to do what they want to do,” she said when asked whether Bollywood has become more accepting of her since her recent releases. “People might think, ‘Oh, Regena is saying this,’ but I’m too small to make that kind of impression. One day, I hope to have enough influence to drive real change.”
Speaking From the Heart
Regena made it clear that her statements come from a place of love and concern, not resentment.
“It’s not coming out of hatred; it’s coming from my heart. Tomorrow someone else will be in my place, but today, it’s me. There must be many other women who feel the same. I have over 20 years of acting experience and have worked in Hindi films since 2018. I really want to see change.”
She questioned why the language barrier is still used as an excuse in casting decisions:
“How long will you keep saying language is a barrier? I want to see South Indian women playing North Indian roles too.”
Mastering Hindi to Break the Barrier
Regena is proactive about overcoming language challenges. She shared how she is improving her Hindi fluency and diction through constant learning.
“I can read and write Hindi better than some Hindi-speaking people. I prefer to read my scripts in Devanagari rather than anglicised Hindi. I also work with a Hindi tutor to improve my pronunciation. I want to make sure no one can say the language barrier kept me from getting a role.”
Her mission is clear:
“I want to break the stereotype that South Indian actors can’t play North Indian characters. It’s often seen as too much effort to cast a South Indian actor for such roles—but when a North Indian actor plays a South Indian, it’s accepted. That needs to change.”
Regena Cassandra’s Vision for Indian Cinema
Regena Cassandra’s journey in 2025 is not just about her film choices, but also about pushing boundaries and advocating for equal representation in Indian cinema. With her talent, experience, and determination, she continues to inspire a new generation of actors to rise above stereotypes and redefine what it means to be a pan-Indian artist.
