You may watch five serial killer films on OTT, ranging from “Ratsasan” to “Spyder.”

The serial killer movie genre has been explored in South cinema, which makes it more engaging and acceptable than conventional horror films because it dives into the intricate workings of criminal minds. A well-written, intricate plot is essential for these films because any errors could cause viewers to quickly lose interest. Since serial killer films focus on unusual experiments and hidden secrets, viewers have high expectations and are extremely critical of them. Here is a collection of top-notch serial killer films from Tollywood and other South Indian dialects that can be seen on OTT services.


01/5 Ratsasan

Ram Kumar, noted for his 2014 work on “Mundasupatti,” directed the 2018 Indian Tamil film “Ratsasan” (Demon). With supporting actors like Kaali Venkat, Vinodhini Vaidyanathan, and Ramdoss, the movie also includes Vishnu Vishal, Amala Paul, and Saravanan in the key parts. Ghibran composed the music and the background score for the movie, while PV Shankar was in charge of the photography and San Lokesh was in charge of the editing. After his father passes away, the protagonist, a would-be film director, chooses to join the police force. He takes on the difficult task of finding a serial killer. On October 5, 2018, the movie was released, and critics gave it high marks.


HIT 02/5: The Initial Case


Sailesh Kolanu, a newbie, is the director of the 2020 Indian Telugu crime thriller “HIT: The First Case.” Both Vishwak Sen and Ruhani Sharma appear in it. In the Homicide Intervention Team (HIT) of Telangana State, Vikram Rudraraju is a police officer tasked with looking into the disappearance of an 18-year-old female.The movie’s February 28, 2020, theatrical debut resulted in a successful box office endeavour. A stand-alone sequel called “HIT: The Second Case” was released later. The First Case was remade in Hindi, and Sailesh Kolanu directed the Hindi version as well, which was released in July 2022. Sailesh’s direction of “HIT: The First Case” and “HIT: The Second Case” both continue the story. Together, they make up the HIT universe.

Vignesh Raja is the director of the 2023 Tamil-language crime thriller movie “Por Thozhil,” which translates to “The Art of War.” Vignesh Raja and Alfred Prakash also co-wrote the script. R. Sarathkumar, Ashok Selvan, and Nikhila Vimal play law enforcement officers searching for a serial killer in Vignesh’s debut feature film. On June 9, 2023, the film received a theatrical release, and it was a critical and financial triumph. Within just 10 days of its debut, it made Rs 3.5 crore in Kerala, bringing in Rs 50 crore globally. On OTT platforms, “Por Thozhil” is currently viewable for streaming.

AR Murugadoss wrote and directed the 2017 action thriller film “Spyder.” Mahesh Babu, SJ Suryah, and Rakul Preet Singh are the stars of this Telugu and Tamil movie. Murugadoss wrote the dialogue for the Tamil version, and the Paruchuri Brothers handled the Telugu version. Sreekar Prasad edited the movie, Santosh Sivan handled the photography, and Harris Jayaraj did the music.The plot centres on Shiva, an IB officer who, upon learning that a psychopath is at large, sets out on a mission to defend the citizens of Hyderabad and Chennai. On September 27, 2017, it was theatrically released around the world in Telugu, Tamil, Arabic, and Malayalam; on September 26, it was released in the US and Gulf nations. Due to its high production cost of Rs 120 crore, it was regarded as a box office letdown despite earning Rs 150 crore.

Gautham Vasudev Menon wrote and directed “Nadunisi Naaygal,” an experimental psychological thriller movie, which was released in 2011. Along with four Rottweiler canines, Veera, Sameera Reddy, Deva, Swapna Abraham, and Ashwin (in his debut), the film also stars four more notable actors.This movie stands out since it doesn’t have a conventional musical score. Renganaath Ravee’s meticulously crafted sounds are used instead to achieve the appropriate ambiance and tension.On February 18, 2011, “Nadunisi Naaygal” was launched, and it was also concurrently dubbed and released in Telugu as “Erra Gulabilu.” Sundara Ramasamy’s poem “Nadunisi Naaygal” served as the inspiration for the title.
